“My sculptures fool the eye by bringing the viewer into an interactive space where function and form are as important as irony and humor. I nominate the Pogo Crutch for Opulent Mobility not because it is a working crutch, nor is it a working pogo stick, but because of the humor. Laughter breaks down barriers and heals the broken, sometimes schizophrenic minds of people regarding disability. As someone who lives with schizophrenia, I am sensitive to material in a way that might be different from other sculptors, but it gives me an advantage in that I can see utility in what people might term garbage.”

DESCRIPTIONS:
"Mr. Isakson’s Pogo Crutch is a combination of a salvaged pogo stick and a crutch from a non-profit organization.
The sculpture is nearly 6 feet tall. The crutch’s arm rest stands above the top of the pogo stick. The bottom of the crutch rests on top of the pogo stick’s foot. Both items are solidly welded together. The sculpture is painted a bright yellow that is often used for school buses, construction vehicles and safety equipment.
Trickledown Economics Machine blends a walker, a mop wringer with an American flag tangled inside and an old electric typewriter.
The sculpture stands 4 feet tall. A mop wringer and its handle protrude from the top of the walker. Inside of the mop wringer is an American flag. The typewriter is mounted so its keys face the viewer instead of the user of the walker. It seems difficult if not impossible to lift and move the walker by its handles. The sculpture is painted a bright school bus yellow." -A. Laura Brody
