ABOUT THE ARTWORK:
The work evolved from a wheelchair which I wanted to make playful and imagined the possibilities of it being motorized. I introduced aspects of humour, such as the kettle for the radiator and the beer barrel for the bonnet and boot.
BIO:
I am a visual and performance artist living and working in Roscommon, Ireland. I exhibit sculpture and video in galleries and perform at festivals, symposiums, and events nationally and internationally.
DESCRIPTION:
Genevieve
This shiny silver “Car” is created predominately from wheelchair parts.
The seat is a wheelchair frame with a wooden seat and arms. It rolls along on four large wheelchair wheels that have semicircular sections of an aluminum barrel as a front fender. Corrugated trash can lids cut in half serve as rear fenders. A vertical barbecue grill acts as the car’s grill with a radiator cap on the top. It has a black rubber cattle guard as a front bumper and two conical headlights, two side mirrors and a rear-view mirror. A smaller front wheelchair wheel serves as a steering wheel. Wheelchair foot rests act as running boards. At the rear are two exhaust pipes, red bicycle reflectors, and yellow tail lights. A section of the aluminum barrel wraps around the rear of the seat. On the top of the seat is a frame from a pram hood.
