ABOUT THE ARTWORKS:

Mixed Media Collage using both old and new materials and surrealism. These works focus on the freedom and greatness of disability community.

STATEMENT:

I am a mixed media collage artist with a disability. I often like to focus on disability in my work through a societal and cultural lens. Collage, as the art of putting materials and images together to create a new and different whole, is a fitting medium for this subject. I collect images relating to a specific topic from a variety of sources and then add and layer them into a composition, often adding color throughout the process with gel sticks and other mediums. I combine bold, bright colors with graphic images to immerse the viewer in my concept and give them something new to see. By doing this, I hope to challenge societal norms and stereotypes.

DESCRIPTIONS:

Diva
A woman sits on a love seat that rests on a mobility scooter.
The woman partially faces left and leans back. She has short blonde hair, a fair complexion and slender figure. She wears a gold lame blazer with sparkling black lapels and matching slacks. The pant legs are stuffed into dark gold ankle boots. The love seat has a floral pattern on a beige background. The white scooter has a large black basket attached to the front under the hand grips. In the background are torn pieces of textured paper lightly colored in shades of green; some are a faint royal blue.

Rocking Horse
A black and white image of a smiling woman sitting facing left on a brown wooden rocking horse. Under the runners are power chair wheels. The horse has wide black eyes, a black mane, and black halter. The woman wears a long sleeved shirt, calf length jeans and dark shoes.
