ART STATEMENT:
"All photographs are self-portraiture of my body outside of built environments.
Working within the frameworks of capacity and disability, I use photographs to examine and reclaim my own identity. As a physically and visually disabled artist, my work is a reflection of how I see the world. Cumulatively, my work creates an expansive self-portrait. Some images are literal–photographs of my physical body, pictures of my life. Others build on environmental cues that place the viewer in my position through fragmented imagery and visual confrontation. The works investigate the concepts of normalcy, disability, agency, visual acuity, and interpretation. My work is about existing in the body that I have, in the life that I am living. It is about inhabiting spaces, perceiving surroundings, and above all, the process of survival."

DESCRIPTIONS:
Bleeding Out:
A photographic print is tacked to 2 large tree trunks. On the print is the image of a fair skinned, naked woman with her back to us, her head tilted right. Her brown hair is pinned up, exposing her neck. The fingers of her right hand rest on her left shoulder, while the left hand rests just below her neck. The left edge of the work is a soft yellow and extends vertically to the woman’s torso and hip. The far right edge has a fainter hint of the same yellow. Sunlight filters thru the bright green leaves of the surrounding woods. Our point of view is looking lightly up at the banner and trees.
Reclamation:
A black and white photo of a fair skinned, naked woman seated by a fallen tree. The roots fan above her. She sits in profile, facing right, head turned to her right, knees bent. Her long hair falls in soft curls on either side of her face. Her left hand rests on the elbow of her right arm which is down at her side. Her full right breast touches her bent knee. Shadows of branches contrast with her pale skin. Behind and to her right are dense saplings.
Knotted:
A photographic print is suspended from a gray-brown tree branch over dark water. On the fabric is the image of a fair skinned, naked woman with her back to us. Her dark hair is pinned up. Light reflects off her right shoulder and neck. A dark triangle shadow sits between her shoulder blades. The curve of her left shoulder is barely visible. A stark white border frames the work and is reflected in the ripples on the water.
