ABOUT THE ART:

Henna is a form of temporary body art native to the Arabian Peninsula, Indian Subcontinent and parts of Northern Africa. It’s a plant based dye that has been used for at least 5000 years (arguably longer).
Embraced by religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Jainism, Islam and Judaism – it has penetrated the fabric of these cultures for generations. It’s an imperative part of numerous festivals and is a culturally mandated adornment on hands and legs in the weddings, often for both the bride and the groom.
Where I come from, there are at least 3 communal occasions/festivals a year where extended family and friends get together and invite professional artists over to apply henna. Because the focus is exclusively on limbs, I have repeatedly seen people with prosthetic limbs feeling excluded. With technology now closely mimicking the natural in functionality, it’s about time luxury is stirred into the mix.

STATEMENT:

After 14 years of studying and working in the Banking and Finance sector, I have very recently transitioned into a full time artistic career. I am an inspired self-taught artist currently experimenting with Digital Canvas and Murals. With each artwork, I strive for the audience to feel a connection to the spirit on paper/screen and hold their gaze followed by the delight of discovering tiny details. Instead of providing a lot of description, I create a vessel that compels them to imagine a back-story for each character they meet.

DESCRIPTION:

Opulent Prostheses
On a stark black background, two salmon pink, stylized symmetrical flowers occupy the upper left and lower right of the work. A bare upper arm is in the upper right. The forearm is a silver prosthesis etched with fine lace like floral patterns. The articulated fingers have long pale pink nails and pink knuckles and tendons.
