“In 2012, I quit my job and gave up my own apartment to move in with my mother as her caretaker. At the time, she was
only 67, but an auto-immune disease named polymyositis in conjunction with osteoarthritis, multiple joint replacements,
and mental health issues had given her an effective age of about 85. She required a walker, a wheelchair, a hospital bed,
assistance with meal preparation, bathing, the toilet, and so on. In late 2014, I began to document my experience of the
situation in a series of photographs titled An Ongoing Series with No Specific End Date.”

DESCRIPTION:
"Ian Wood’s photograph Morning shows a darkened room with faintly-lit wood paneled walls, a door and a cane casting its shadow.
Nothing is clear on the left side of the picture. A nightlight glows from an outlet in the center. On its right, a brownish tan blanket or robe hangs from a doorknob. In front of the door and to the right of the robe stands a blue and silver cane with a black handle and strap. The bottom of the cane is not clear, but it seems to have a free-standing base.
There is a crisp T-shape of golden light on the wood paneled wall, the hanging robe or blanket, and the door. The cane and its strap cast a clear shadow of themselves on the door." -A. Laura Brody
